Mimi's Summer Day Camp, Day Eight --- Under the Sea

This week we are taking a look at Sea Creatures!  The day started with a tie-dye project.  The girls wrapped their white t-shirts and banded them with rubber bands, then we used fabric dye to saturate the shirts. We used sea colors, since that's our theme this week.
KT trying to decide what colors to use.
Joss's shirt - she likes (loves) yellow right now.

They turned out pretty neat! We had to let them dry, then I washed them & dried them
again in the house.

Next project was a big hit - sand slime!! Basically you mix clear glue with Sta Flo fabric starch to make the slime, then color (we used ocean blue), then mix in sand. I bought them some craft sand at the Dollar store, blue and white.

Caution - this can get messy!!
Such a great sensory activity - they played with this stuff forever!
Then we added sea shells and marbles to the slime - they put it in, took it out, put it back in...repeat.

I got the girls a couple of plastic boxes with lids to keep their sand slime in to take home.

After lunch we made floating octopus in a bottle - this didn't work out as well as it should have, but they had fun making them anyway.

Summer camp had visitors in the afternoon, family from Florida! They joined us for a late lunch, then we had swim time.

Their second cousin, Big Daniel, went into the pool with the girls while the rest of the family talked and visited.  They had a blast!
On Thursday, we're going to the Aquarium!
